Salt Bag

A salt bag is a type of small woven bag used by nomadic tribes, particularly among Turkmen and Persian groups. These bags were used to store and transport salt and are typically decorated with geometric patterns and tribal motifs. They were often hung inside tents as both functional and decorative items. Salt bags are part of the broader category of tribal utilitarian weavings. This is a bag of distintictive shape with a neck or spout. It is used for salt storage and generally woven with a flat weave technique, although pile ones are available too. These types of bags are common mostly with south Persian tribes but could be found with Turkoman tribes as well.
