Oushak (Ushak)

Oushak (Ushak) rugs are Anatolian carpets woven in the Oushak region of western Turkey, one of the most important historical carpet-producing areas. These rugs are known for their large-scale floral designs, soft color palettes, and spacious compositions, often featuring medallions or all-over patterns. Oushak carpets were widely exported to Europe from the 15th to the 17th centuries and remain highly valued for their decorative elegance. In active production by second half of the 16th Century, the Oushak factory was particularly well situated to serve the export trade, with the port of Izmir (Smyrna) to the west coast and the port of Antalya to the south. In the 17th Century, the production of this workshop surpassed that of all of the other centers. Oushak retained its reputation right up to the 19th Century, when its carpets became known as
