Agra carpets are produced in the historic city of Agra in northern India, one of the major weaving centers during the Mughal Empire (16th–18th centuries). Under Mughal patronage, carpet weaving flourished in Agra, producing rugs with large-scale floral designs, palmettes, scrolling vines, and spacious layouts influenced by Persian artistic traditions. Later Agra carpets, particularly those made during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for export, often feature softer color palettes and larger room-sized formats intended for European and American markets.
