Soumac
Soumac
is a comparatively rare type of flat weave, deriving its name
from the old town of Shemakja. Caucasian Soumacs are durable,
often delicately patterned rug. Antique Soumacs, dating back
to early 19 Century, use typically rusty brown colors and
feature geometric motifs, which are taken from those in in
Caucasian pile rugs. The most popular patterns include medallions,
the running dog border with the dragon style in the earlier
pieces.
