Peking
Peking
rugs share certain characteristics with those made in Tienstin,
the nearly port. They date fro the Ching dynasty 1644-1911,
and are of good quality.Typically, Peking rugs feature symbolic
motifs and medallions, such as the shou character, and also
Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian motifs, as well as floral designs.
Motifs are not normally joined by linking patterns, but they
float independently on the field color. The Peking workshops
began to decline in the 1920's, when the American fashion
for chinoiserie faded.
