Kirshehir (Kirshir)

The town of Kirshehir is located between Konya and the capital Ankara. In Kirshehir were woven the famous “Mejid” carpets named after Sultan Abdul Mejid in 19 Century. These rugs were made under the influence of European designs, with Rococo swirls. Many Kirshehir rugs still maintain a highly stylized floral pattern. The field color is often a bright distinctive cherry red.
