Birjand

A city of Quainat region of Eastern Iran. Rugs were woven on a workshop basis in Birjand from the beginning of 20 Century. Most of the rugs produced before World War 2 were jufti knotted in poor weaving quality. Older pieces have higher knot density than the later pieces, and were made on a wool foundation vs. the cotton foundation of the later rugs.
